Will the Ford Ranger Get a Plug-In Hybrid Variant?

2021 Ford Ranger | Inverness, FL

There’s a lot of speculation on the future of Ford trucks — and it looks like the new Ford Ranger is at the center of some exciting rumors. According to CarExpert in Australia, an all-new Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid should debut in Australia in 2022. The yet-to-be-seen 2022 Ford Everest is also in line for the available upgrade. The PHEV systems combine with the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder for both trucks for the first time in Ford history. And the outputs are what you would imagine — it’s expected to offer 362 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque.

However, the Ford Motor Company hasn’t confirmed or denied these rumors. A report came out a couple of months ago that the next-generation F-150 is supposed to have a PHEV version, but that was quickly debunked. It’s also important to keep in mind that a PHEV Ranger may not come to the American market. The current Ranger Raptor isn’t currently slated to be sold in the American market.

But if speculations do come true, there’s a lot to look forward to in Inverness, FL. The next-generation F-150 reveal will bring with it a possible all-electric version. A new off-road truck based on the Bronco is a possibility. And there are rumors of a smaller pickup called the Maverick in the works. All in all, it’s exciting news.
