Recently, the automaker announced that it is expanding its popular Ford GoRide Health Service, a paratransit system that offers transportation to individuals with disabilities.

Ford believes that kindness and helping out the community are some of the most important parts of any business, and the further development of the GoRide service is a natural extension of this ethos. This service provides transportation for medical needs to people of all ages and disabilities.

The GoRide Health system works by automatically connecting people with dispatched drivers who can provide transportation to medical appointments. While the program was developed in the Detroit area, the program is now expanding to Ohio, followed by Florida and more states by 2020.

Minyang Jiang, GoRide Health CEO, has noted that the system is “gaining momentum because it is a reliable, human-centered service for people whose very lives depend on making their medical appointments.” She describes the service as a response to a growing need that simply wasn’t being met elsewhere.

Ford Motor Company Goes Green with Locally Sourced Michigan Wind Energy

Ford Making Switch to Green Power for Detroit-Area Facilities

Ford, as part of its commitment to make the most of renewable energy sources, has announced a new partnership that is the next step in its Michigan assembly facilities achieving 100 percent locally sourced renewable energy. Through DTE Energy and their MIGreenPower program, Ford will be acquiring 500,000 megawatt hours produced entirely by Michigan wind power.

Ford houses two major production facilities in Michigan. The first is the Dearborn truck plant that produces the iconic F-150 and Raptor models, and the second is the Michigan Assembly Plant where the new 2019 Ford Ranger is in production. Both facilities will benefit from these green renewable initiatives. The Michigan Assembly Plant is itself home to a 500-kilowatt solar photovoltaic panel system, which already provides a significant portion of the location’s power requirements.

The move toward renewable energy is in part to help the environment, but it also comes with other benefits for the local area. Jobs are created to build, maintain, and operate sites that produce renewable energy. Furthermore, the local energy grid becomes more reliable due to the additional sources of electrical input.

Altogether, this partnership between Ford and DTE Energy means better production facilities, a cleaner environment, and a more prosperous future.

2019 Ford Ranger Offers Superb Midsize Pickup Fuel Efficiency

2019 Ford Ranger, Inverness, FL

The 2019 Ford Ranger offers impressive strength and versatility, but it doesn’t stop there. The 2019 Ranger sets a new standard for efficiency in the midsize pickup segment.

The all-new Ranger rolls out with an EPA-estimated 21 city/26 highway/23 combined mpg.* Four-wheel drive models are rated for an EPA-estimated 20 city/24 highway/22 combined mpg.* That kind of efficiency makes it stand above gas-powered competitors.

“Midsize truck customers have been asking for a pickup that’s Built Ford Tough,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “And Ranger will deliver with durability, capability and fuel efficiency, while also providing in-city maneuverability and the freedom desired by many midsize pickup truck buyers to go off the grid.”

The 2.3-liter EcoBoost® four-cylinder engine generates 270 horsepower and a best-in-class 310 lb-ft of torque. That kind of strength gives the Ford Ranger a best-in-class 7,500 pounds of maximum towing capacity too. The Ranger’s engine comes paired with a class-exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission.

The new Ranger also offers an impressive array of available technologies, including the class-exclusive Blind Spot Information System.

Tips For Driving In Wet Conditions

Wet Conditions

Driving when the weather is rainy can be stressful. However, there’s no reason to fear soggy or slick conditions as long as you exercise caution behind the wheel and remember to practice these safe driving habits

Slow Down & Leave Room

It’s never a good idea to speed or drive too close to the car in front of you. This can be especially hazardous on slippery pavement. When the roads are wet, make sure to drive the speed limit, observe a safe following distance behind other vehicles, and give yourself plenty of room to stop.

Don’t Slam The Brakes

If you start skidding while driving in the rain, your first impulse might be to stomp on the brake pedal. Resist this urge. Instead, gently pump the brakes and concentrate on retaining control of your vehicle until you are able to stop or steer out of the skid.

Avoid Cruise Control

Cruise control can be a great way to improve your driving experience on the highway. However, using this technology when roads are wet can affect your vehicle’s traction and increase your risk of hydroplaning or skidding. Turn off cruise control in slick conditions so you can maintain complete control of your vehicle.

Make sure to follow these tips to stay as safe as possible during rough driving conditions and reach out to us at Nick Nicholas Ford if you have any additional questions!
